Support Recovery Efforts for China’s Qinghai Province
The recent earthquake in China’s Qinghai Province has killed more than 600 people and left nearly 10,000 injured.
China Charity Federation, a United Way international affiliate, is focusing on emergency relief, providing tents, food and medicine to the victims. Long-term, China Charity Federation will be working with the Ministry of Civil Affairs on reconstruction projects in the earthquake-affected area, focusing on schools, houses and orphanages which collapsed.

United Way Uganda and its partners are monitoring events in Bududa following the massive mudslides that reportedly killed over 350 people in March and displaced thousands of Bamasaba, causing devastation to homes, churches, health centers, and schools. Donations will go toward long-term recovery and re-building in Haiti and Chile as well as to meet the needs of Haitians who have relocated to the U.S.A. United Way is working with Haitian community networks and to determine the most pressing long-term recovery needs. For Chile, funds will go to support the reconstruction of kindergartens in the central and south region of Chile affected by the earthquake.
During times of crisis United Ways play direct roles in provision of information and referral (2-1-1), volunteer and in-kind donations management, and long term recovery coordination. United Ways also support such critical services as: meeting basic needs, child care, case management, health and mental health care, financial stability programs (job training, emergency mortgage assistance), home repair, legal services and transportation.
Throughout the recovery period, and every day, United Way will continue to coordinate community resources and invest strategically to make the biggest impact to people who are suffering.

Day in and day out, communities depend on United Way to coordinate, network and marshal resources to improve lives. In times of disaster, those skills become even more critical.
Disasters may take the form of an act of nature such as a hurricane, tornado, blizzard, fire, flood, earthquake or pandemic. Crises may also result from man-made incidents including tragic accidents, school or workplace violence, civil disorder, corporate mismanagement and terrorism.
During times of crisis, whether in areas directly affected by disaster, or in regions that welcome large numbers of displaced people, United Ways across the country play direct roles in 2-1-1, volunteer and in-kind donations management, and long term recovery coordination.
