Leadership Retreat
The Student United Way Leadership Retreat is the annual national gathering of Student United Way, the student-led movement of United Way.
This year, student leaders, campus advisers, and United Way professionals from around the country will meet up at the United Way Worldwide headquarters September 24-25. We'll be sharing stories in advancing the common good, building leadership skills, and challenging each other (and their peers back home) to LIVE UNITED. Join us!
Important Planning Information
When & Where: This year's retreat will be Friday, September 24th through Saturday, September 25th at the brand new Mary Gates Learning Center at the United Way Worldwide headquarters.
Who Should Attend: College student leaders, United Way representatives, and campus advisors actively working on Student United Way are invited to participate.
Agenda: The retreat is designed for college students to:
- Share promising practices for advancing the common good on campus
- Build leadership skills
- Connect with each other and United Way professionals
This year, we're putting special focus on promising campus-based practices in Education. We’ve got United Way’s top leaders slated for interactive discussions on the issue, and we’re planning hands-on workshops for building recruitment skills and programs. A detailed agenda will be out in the coming weeks.
After our official meetings Friday and Saturday, we'll host some social activities in DC. Details coming soon!
Travel Planning: To participate in all meeting and social activities, please make travel arrangements according to the schedule below:
- Arrive by 5PM Friday for conference check-in and opening activities
- Depart after 11PM Saturday (We recommend departing Sunday morning if possible)

Meeting Costs: We want the retreat to be easily accessible for students working on Student United Way. There will be no registration fee for student leaders and local United Way representatives attending the retreat. That said, space is limited. Please be sure to register early to grab your spot! The registration deadline is August 25.
Meals will be provided at the retreat Friday evening and Saturday during the day.
Attendees will be responsible for their own travel costs including flights, ground transportation, lodging, and incidentals. Fundraising tips and templates will be distributed in the coming weeks.
We are currently negotiating a preferred rate for retreat attendees at a hotel in walking distance of the event. Keep an eye on this page and your inbox for more details.
