During Spring Break 2010, hundreds of young adults and student volunteers from across the United States traded swimming trunks for tool belts and teamed up with United Way to make a meaningful impact in communities across the country. From continuing to rebuild the Gulf Coast after hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike, to addressing the issues plaguing urban America, volunteer rolled up their sleeves to make an impact.

  • National ASB program – March 28th – April 3rd, 2010 in Biloxi, Mississippi.  More than four years after Katrina, hundreds of families have a long way to go to get back into their homes. United Way of South Mississippi is working to remedy this problem and put a roof over the heads of displaced families, while also helping to address basic community needs that existed before the storm ever touched the Gulf Coast.  Learn about how students volunteered their spring break to help rebuild the Mississippi Gulf Coast by clicking here.
  • Do It Yourself Alternative Spring Break –Student United Ways organized their own alternative spring breaks. Nearly 100 students from Student United Ways at The University of Akron, Purdue University, University of Nevada - Reno, Drake University in Iowa, Drew University in Madison, NJ, University of Florida, University of Arizona, and University of TexasEl Paso spent their break volunteering. • Team Leader Roles – All ASB alumni had the chance to make an even more significant impact and help increase the scope and scale of ASB by signing up as an ASB Team Leader. Learn more about this leadership role if you are interested in joining us for ASB 2011 as a Team Leader by clicking here.
